JUS Evolution is my FAVORITE band... I was introduced to them through my peoples Wise Dred when he had an event called the Evolution of Music at Crash Mansion. JUS is the lead singer and insanely talented guitar player who regularly channels Jimi Hendrix and Tupac to name a few. Through his musical journey he discovered a formula that has seperated JUS EVOLUTION from all the other bands in my mind.

They are all talented in each of their instruments but when they come together their teamwork is what comes through the music. Whether they perform for a crowd at Best Buy, a small night club in NYC or a huge open outdoor stadium in Germany they give their full rocked out hiphop funk of rhymes and riffs! I love the fact that everything they say is an emotion you can relate to or learn from. JUS has a way of showing you that they are rockstars in an everyday sense that their feet are still planted firm on the ground.

Their humble spirits, their consistent grind to expose their hardwork, their creative approach to a changing industry and the fact that they are of a different genre shows testament to the passion for the music. To me this genre hasn't been to the surface yet so JUS is blazing new trails and showing you that anyone, any color, any financial status can rock out if you just have the PASSION & DRIVE which this band does to the 5th power!!

BIGGIE... described by Rolling Stone as a "thick, jaunty grumble" & The Source's Unsigned Hype, described his style as "cool, nasal, and filtered, to bless his own material". Years have passed but he is still played on a daily basis whether its radio, internet, mp3 players or even ringtones which goes to show you that you can come from nothing and become something. Some people just have "it" and Biggie to me had "it". He had a dream which through time developed into a movement and still continues to this day. His foundation the Christopher Wallace Foundation has a yearly black-tie affair called B.I.G. Night Out where all the proceeds from the evening go to help kids with school equipment and supplies. Biggie was a force and it bothers me that he isn't here today because I know he would have done soooo much more for his family, community & for hiphop!! Your music, message and inspiration is still breathing today not just in Brooklyn but in the Universe.....THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!!!

Comedy to me is like a band-aid but with novakane on it... it helps you get through the fumbles and tumbles in life. On the next Sex & Politics I have comedian Darnell Wright, an intermediate comic who feels he has just begun in his career. He performed at countless Colleges, High Schools, BET Comic View and even Church events. And has shared the stage with today’s hottest comedians such as: Gerald Kelly, A.G. White, Talent, and was blessed to be coming off the stage when a Comedian Legend decided to grace the stage unexpectedly, David Chappelle at Gothem Comedy Club in NYC.

His comedic timing is right on point and his material is for all audiences across the board. Darnell is energetic, raw, and has the ability to make any topic funny. His skits deal with his drinking problems, to his outlandish jobs, his horrible dates, to even clowning his own short stint on the “I Love New York Show” season 2 on VH1. Struggle to me is beautiful because it brings a sense of strength you just can't get any other way...the starving artist needs to make money somehow! So you might find Goldi Gold selling a piece of artwork or a t-shirt from his clothing line JUNGLE45 which you can find all over ATL. You can catch him at your local art shows or in his crib as he goes over all types of inspirational material in all sorts of forms.

I have no doubt in my mind that Goldi Gold's creative flow will continue to hit the mark not only in the urban marketing community but on a whole amongst other artists.

and I know that these past few years have been full of ups and downs but I have grown to appreciate every single one of them. New Decade
Day 2

Change is a coming.... I will be stepping it up this year as I have a plan, master plan. May God continue to guide me as I try my darndest to stay focused. I plan to GET EVEN this year in 2010. A baby on the way? WOW! Nothing really surprises me these days. I keep saying that "everyone cheats" and people always argue against my opinion. They might not cheat on every relationship all the time but they have at least once in their lifetime. If they say that haven't they lying... not that their aren't people with good morals but they are RARE.

I've cheated. I admit it. It was a learning experience but now if I feel the need to cheat then I just tell my partner how I am feeling. Whatever happens after that happens but at least I kept it honest and real!

This whole Tiger thing comes as a surprise to some because I think most of America saw Tiger as an All American picture of a dedicated hard working athlete with a good family raising. But when you have millions (almost billions) then you might feel that the world is at your feet. But money does NOT determine whether someone cheats it just might make it a little easier to cheat. Something was obviously lacking in their marriage to make him feel he needed to cheat. It's not because his wife is ugly or she isn't a good mother... but maybe she wasn't "there" for her husband.

WOMEN: I am taking this opportunity to evaluate the situation from a wives perspective. What made my husband cheat? I would check myself... do I make myself emotionally, physically & emotionally available to my man?
Have we spent time one on one together?
Am I connected to my husband? Does he feel connected to me?

I know we can not control our men but we do need to step up as women and be responsible for our roles. If he takes us for granted then at least we did our part with no regrets. I have seen women step up after the divorce and it always makes me wonder why they didn't do those things during the marriage?

I do wish for this family to stay together as I want all marriages to stay united even after 8 women... there must be healing & forgiveness!! Now I know some of you are saying YEAH RIGHT!! But if we always run when there is a storm or deception we will never grow as people or a society and you see where that has us?
Look at the amount of children being raised by single parent families or even by grandparents? Look at our men and women turning to a bi-sexual or gay lifestyle becuase they have been hurt by the oppisite sex?

We need to find a solid ground. We need to return to structure and rules of engagement... we need MORALS!

Hiphop is an artistic commitment to seize freedom from oppressive social conditions. This artistic commitment inherent in Hiphop culture expresses a reality of human transcendence which was originally born out of the creative impulse and cultural improvisation of the oppressed African American, Afro-Caribbean and Latino American communities...(wiki)

But through the years as money arrived in this kulture the snakes arrived as well. Like the fat rats in the political world who are only here for "self" to fill their pockets with their love for greed. The only people that suffer are the other 99%... (That is half the reason why Hiphop is in the state it is in right now!) ...and Hiphop IS suffering... and it has for years.
I have seen over the past decade plus people taken for money, time & energy either because they were ignorant to the facts or because the person taking them was just that damn good at scamming. PEOPLE RESEARCH, READ, GET REFERRALS!! These new artists coming up don't take the time to learn their business and how things work.
But what really gets my heart is these people that are in positions for some reason or another who take advantage of those trying to get ahead. The people aka snakes who feed on this kulture instead of giving back to it. They fuck their way, suck their way, scam, scheme, lie & cut to get what? A dollar!

Word of mouth is thee best for of advertising and it can build you or it can break you. If you not asking around and learning about who your dealing with on whatever level of business you are on then shame on you BUT I have NO MERCY for those that know what their doing and continue to do it. And you will get found out, you are getting found out becuase the truth always comes to the light. Perfect example if you have made any $money$ from this life called Hiphop and you haven't given back in some way shape are form to this community then you need to be jailed and or sat down and taught a really good lesson(brassknuckles).
Teach our kids to carry this kulture. Show people how to make that next move without charging them an arm and leg. Give to the Fathers of Hiphop. Whens the last time anyone did anything for DJ Kool Herc or Bambaataa? I think Amerika is such a hypocrital place where we dont take care of our assets, elders & our 'selves'. No Respect!

Just because they have a title, business or a level of certain success doesn't make them a good person. They are wolves in sheeps clothing, white, black, brown so never assume. These snakes in the grass can be hard to see and some are better then others but it is VITAL to learn how to spot them. So sometimes you have to sit still and observe. Watch how people move, look who they work with, look who they look out for, watch what they say in comparison to how they act... WATCH! You see em? I see em!!

Friday was ____________ I can't even explain in words but I will try to because I have to share what an experience it was. The Tribute event hosted by KINETIC NRG & LORD SEAR for the recent passing of the Legendary Roc Raida at BB Kings NYC was packed, the energy was nice but what really stood out to me was the love that could be felt. The whole X-ECUTIONERS /X-MEN family was there along with the BEAT JUNKIES BABU, J-ROCC, RHETTMATIC, SHORTKUT CRAZE, A-TRAK, Z-TRIP, DJ SCRATCH, ROLI RHO, IDEE, DJ DUMMY, SLYCE & SHIFTEE. Busta Bus came through but it was DJ KOOL HERC's words that really set the night off letting the world know that Roc Raida was a Grand Master! Video of Raida and past interviews as well as friends shotouts flashed on the screens in between Dj's sets. They all showed off their best Beat Juggling for there fellow comrade and showed off well. You can google/wikipedia Dj Roc Raida if you like but from what I saw that night was who Roc Raida was in real life... down to earth, eclectic, energetic, loyal and real!

I was fortunate enough to have (one) see him spin at the DMC World Finals (USA) and (two) I was able to have a good conversation with him about music. I again will never understand why the good ones go first but you will be missed. Your family and friends have class but most of all respect for you as your event was epic and down to earth. All proceeds went to his wife and children. His daughter even got on stage to share a view words... and when asked what she wants to be when she grows up, she answered, "I want to be a DJ!"

Benjamin Arce is an amazingly talented artist who will ease your mind but at the same time make you reflect. You might be inspired but I gaurantee Benjamin Arce will put you in a different mood than when you began listening.
I rarely just throw a whole album up but this music just has to be heard. Something you can pop in next to Maxwell, John Legend, Sade or Rapheal Saadiq with a little incense or candle, romance your girl or just destress. Underground Soul is interestingly refreshing and I love it!

Last Words

"Missy, its mom. Grandpa isn't doing well today. The nurse is leaving soon. Do you want me to call you when she leaves so you can say a few words to Grandpa? He can't respond/talk but he can hear you."

Laying on my bed I hung up the phone to think of what to say but thoughts of my grandfather flooded me. The cancer has taken over my grandpa's body to the point where the sores in his throat and mouth have made it impossible to speak or swallow food. Whenver I needed advice of how to cure my colds, heal my wounds or an upset stomach I always called my grandparents. My grandfather was very well read and into natural foods, herbs and general life.

But now cancer has decided to prove to the world that it has control rearing its head like a demon ravishing a new victim. Regrets of time lost enter my mind, knowing I cant go back and change it I feel as though I didnt show my grandfather how greatful I am for all he has done for me, all he has taught me and just being there.

I shot my first gun with my grandpa, learned to drive cars, trucks, motorcycles even farm equipment. He taught me how to fix everything from fences to my car. He pulled me out of financial distress when a car company got me for 30% interest. My thoughts are just running with what to say.... angry that I can't be there.

My heart jumps as the phone rings. The sun beaming in on me as I lay on my bed all of a sudden doesn't feel warm anymore. "Missy, you ready?" Mom says....

My grandfather is a farmer who grew corn, christmas trees and raised cattles, chickens. He was a postmaster and retired by 50 but by 56 he had his pilots license as well as 2 planes, one he had built(kit). He would fly down from Minnesota to Iowa to visit his mother every week who was in a nursing home. Yes my great-grandmother is still alive. But now my grandfather isn't... I sit here looking at his farm on google earth knowing that inside that house is a man dying surrounding by his love and 2 daughters.

Feelings are numb and intertwining. I am not the only one I know. It happens everyday. I will miss my Grandpa Stan "the man with the master plan" Estes.

Time has its way especially when you have children but I have been in a constant whirlwind. Getting older means growth, change, wisdom and reflection well that's if your trying to grow, change and get wiser. The reflection part is learning to love yourself regardless of the decisions you have made. I am proud of myself but know I can do better. Seek knowledge. Learn. Remember. Laugh. Never give up!

TUPAC is alive....

I have been blessed to have visited the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation in Stone Mountain, GA with my daughter and it was a very spiritual experience for me. Like others Tupac has affected my life immensely. His music has carried me through happy and rough times in my life. In 1996 I became a young single mother to my beautiful daughter. This marked a very transitional part of my life which was definitely determining my future days ahead.

Pac for me was someone I could identify with only because he shared his pain, suffering and struggles with his life. No I didn't grow up like him or have the same issues but something about his life sucked me in. From "Thug Passion" to "Dear Mama" I just felt something very strong for him as an artist and as a man as he tried desperately to find himself. He did so publicly with alot of flack from haters but I think this came mostly because Pac was like a mirror. We could see so much of ourselves in him as a human being who only tried to better himself and his community everyday.

He was the first man I ever painted... my co-workers would ask me to draw him. My first artwork ever sold was a framed drawing of Tupac ($60) to a friend of a friend. (drawing on side not mine) And as I walked into the TASF building I saw all the paintings, drawings and poems that people had sent to Afeni over the years. I welled up & shed a tear just because I felt a connection with not only Tupac but with all those others that had felt just like I had. His legacy has transcended racial barriers, social barriers and music barriers and still does to this day. I do wish he was still here because I know that just before his passing Pac had found a certain stability/peace he hadn't had before and he was just beginning to live out what he had always wanted. Pac had a vision, a vision for his community, for his life and his art. I just wish I could have seen it all come out of him. BUT NO ONE knows Pac better than his mother Afeni Shakur and through her we are able to see a piece of him. This side the media never showed but was very much there.

I just heard his song open one of the NBA Finals games and again I teared up because at that moment I felt he was ALIVE. The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts is proud to announce a star-studded birthday celebration presented by Afeni Shakur and Hollywood actor/ comedian Mike Epps who decided to augment his schedule by honoring the late rapper’s birthday with a fund-raising event to support The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and an unforgettable birthday celebration. “I’m a long-time fan of Pac’s music. It’s always been the soundtrack for overcoming struggle and when my life was in a desolate place it was his messages that helped bring me through,” says Epps. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for his inspiration. It’s an honor for me to stand alongside his mother, Afeni Shakur in celebrating such a personal moment in her son’s history.”

TASF was formed to bring quality arts training to youth, encourage freedom of expression, serve as a resource for families, and empower via education. The Foundation was founded in 1997 by Afeni Shakur, mother of multi-talented Tupac Shakur. TASF offers book clubs, after school enrichment classes, cultural exchange, workshops, and leadership & arts summer camps. TASF is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization located at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia.The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts features rotating exhibits, Tupac memorabilia, performance area, gift shop, and 6 acre Peace Garden replete with flowers, trees, three screened pavilions and a statue of Tupac Shakur. Most of these pics are from the Zulu Nation Party in the BX from a few months back. I always have sooo much fun when I hang with my girl Miss Toni Hill and I appreciate all the REAL HIPHOP HEADS and OG's who consistently show me crazy love!!!

We have to remember to create a positive environment for our youth to be creative, have fun and feel safe. Hiphop brings people together BUT it is up to our adults and veterans to be leaders in creating such a place for kids. I call on all who have the ablitity to make such thing happen to have a FAMILY DAY event at least once a year in your community. A place where clean Hip Hop music is played, families are participating in the youths activities ( music, dance, arts, games ) to support them with your presence & knowledge! We HAVE to teach them HOW to continue this kulture and NOT water it down or EXPLOIT it......

Rocawear moves to China

Jay-Z has inked a deal with Bosideng International Holdings to bring the Rocawear brand overseas to China. From Spring 2010, Bosideng will produce products from the men and women Rocawear line, with plans to open 300 stores across the country over the next 3 years. Jay-Z sold Rocawear to Iconix Brand Group in 2007 for $204M, though remained to oversee the development and marketing of Rocawear. He says he and Neil Cole made a commitment to building Rocawear into a global lifestyle brand, and this validates their joint efforts to bring an authentic interpretation of American fashion to young people around the world.
